It was originally launched with two plant-based options: the Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso and the Iced Chocolate Almond milk Shaken Espresso. The former is made by adding brown sugar, oat milk, and cinnamon to Starbucks Blonde Espresso, while the latter can be made with the option of adding cocoa, almond milk, and notes of malt.

Is Shaken Espresso Strong?

Espresso has an amount of 63 mg of caffeine in one shot, whereas coffee only has 12 to 16 mg of caffeine in one ounce. This means that espresso is stronger than coffee. In fact, the shaken espresso Grande size has 3 shots of espresso, which just infers that the beverage is indeed strong.

However, if you find the drink too strong, you can always ask your barista to tone the amount of caffeine down to two shots if you do not prefer a very strong amount of caffeine in your drink.

How does Shaken Espresso taste like?

It is worth noting that the Starbucks shaken espresso tastes strong yet sweet, but not overly sweet, and the drink only has 120 calories and 13 grams of sugar.

Espresso

Any dark roasted coffee is good enough to be the expresso for making this drink.

Simple Syrup

Syrup is one of the important ingredients to make this drink. In order to make your own simple syrup, you can improvise by dissolving sugar with water. As for instruction, take a cup of sugar and water, then combine it in a saucepan with low heat until the sugar is dissolved. However, you may also try it with vanilla syrup if you have it.

Milk

Milk is needed to make this drink, 2% of milk, to be specific. You can also use other kinds of milk, such as oat milk and soy milk.

Ice

Of course, you need ice to make the drink.

After preparing each ingredient needed, follow the step-by-step instruction below:

  1. Put the simple syrup (4 pumps of syrup), 2 or 3 shots of espresso, depending on your preference, and the ice into a cocktail shaker. Then you may enjoy shaking it. If you do not have a cocktail shaker, you can improvise with a jar having a tight lid.
  2. After shaking, pour the drink into a cup; if there is more, you can get another cup.
  3. Then lastly, add the milk for about 1/4 cup; you can add more depending on your preference. You can also put more ice if necessary. However, you can be more creative by topping off your drink with cold foam instead of milk, then viola! You now have a delicious homemade shaken espresso. You may serve it now and enjoy it!
